Hi, I'm Marvin
I write The Rockhounding Hub as a calm, practical place for field notes, mineral references, and honest guidance.
I started this site because I wanted one place to keep the details I actually use: what I found, what I still need to verify, and what I learned after getting something wrong.

Why I started this site
I started The Rockhounding Hub because I kept running into the same problem while learning rockhounding: useful information was spread across old forum posts, scattered notes, and pages that were not written for someone standing in the field.
I wanted a place where I could collect what I learned, keep track of what still needs checking, and make that information easier for other people to use.
Where I am in rockhounding
I should be clear about this: I'm still relatively new to rockhounding. I am learning by going out, taking notes, asking better questions, and correcting myself when I get something wrong.
I do not want this site to pretend otherwise. I would rather be honest about where I am than dress up in fake expertise.
What I'm trying to build
I want this site to be useful to people who are just starting out, people who have been collecting for years, and people who simply want straightforward information they can trust.
- I want beginners to find a clear starting point without having to sort through hype.
- I want experienced collectors to find practical notes they can use or challenge.
- I want people to feel comfortable sending corrections, local knowledge, and better ways of doing things.
How I handle accuracy
I try to verify details before I publish them, and I update pages when I learn that something has changed. Access rules move, roads change, and old notes go stale quickly.
When I am not sure about a detail, I say so. If a page needs a correction, I would rather fix it than leave a confident mistake on the site.
I also try to keep the language plain. I would rather be precise than impressive.
Who this site is for
I made this for people who want practical rockhounding information without being talked down to. That includes first-time collectors, returning hobbyists, families, and anyone who values clear field notes over big claims.
If you spot a mistake, have a local update, or want to suggest a topic, contact me.
Keep the notes honest
The most useful thing you can send me is a correction, a local update, or a better explanation. That is how this site gets more useful for everyone.
